History of Los Alamitos
Although the first persons to inhabit the territory known as Los Alamitos today were Puvu Indians, Spaniards took control of the village around 1769. A man by the name of Don Manuel Nieto was granted the land along with some of the surrounding territory. Upon his death, Nieto's land was divided among his children.
Originally, Los Alamitos was a cattle ranch; however, during the drought of 1863-64, the ranch lost nearly its entire herd. The land switched hands over the next several decades until a man named Senator Clark began planning a town for the area. By 1896, the Clark's town consisted of a sugar refinery, school, recreation building, two hotels, a general store and several private homes.
